General Statistics
- Unlicensed teen drivers tend to engage in more high-risk behaviors than licensed teen drivers.1
- Teen drivers who currently smoke are more than twice as likely to have had a crash as nonsmokers.2
- Most teen crashes are not caused by aggressive driving or thrill-seeking. Instead, they are more often caused by errors associated with inexperience, such as poor speed management, inadequate scanning, and distractions from something inside or outside of the vehicle. 3
