Philadelphia Inquirer -- PA Getting Tougher With New Teenage Drivers

Philadelphia Inquirer -- In this article by Kathleen Brady Shea, Pennsylvania's new teen driver safety legislation, known as Lacey's Law, is reviewed. The Law, which went into effect October 25, 2011 in Pennsylvania, restricts the number of passengers new teen drivers may carry, makes teens riding in teen-driven vehicles without seat belts a primary offense, and adds 15 hours to the previous 50 hours of pre-test supervised driving practice required to obtain a junior license. Shea also cites new research from CHOP and State Farm® on teens driving their friends recently published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The two studies describe the factors that lead teens to carry multiple passengers, a known crash risk, and then, how thesse passengers affect driver behavior.
