familycarguide.com -- In this informative article, Patty Huang, MD, a developmental pediatrician at CHOP and a member of the Young Driver Research team at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, gives parents advice based on her research recently published in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics  that explores how teens with a high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HFASD) handle driving. Although little is known about how HFASDs affect a person's ability to drive safely, there are predictive characteristics that can help researchers offer guidance for families in making the decision to allow their teen to drive.
