US News & World Report HealthDay -- According to a new study by CHOP researchers, two-thirds of U.S. teens with high-functioning autism spectrum disorder (HFASD) are currently driving or plan to drive. In this article, lead author Patty Huang, MD, a developmental pediatrician at CHOP and a member of the Young Driver Research team at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, emphasizes the importance of families determining driving readiness with the help of their teen's doctor and shares characteristics of this special population of teens to help families prepare for the learning to drive process.
