Study the Driver's Manual

Before going to get your Learner’s Permit, you need to do a little homework. Start by reading the driver’s manual for your state. There you'll find directions for getting your permit. A PDF of the booklet can be found online for free. Just do an online search. Be sure to study and understand the rules. Don’t just memorize them. Although you might be able to answer all the questions correctly on the written and driving skills test, your learning doesn’t stop there. As a new driver, you must learn to be responsible and in control of your car, as well as how to interact with traffic and handle different road conditions.

It takes time to become a safe, confident driver. The first step is to know the rules of the road and local laws found in your state's driver's manual.
