GDL As A Guide

Learning to drive is a very exciting milestone for teens. It can also be a nerve-wracking experience for parents. You can help make the learning to drive process a little easier for the parents you work with by recommending that they use Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) as a guide for supervised practice driving and beyond. They should be made aware of state laws and particularly the minimum recommended GDL provisions that are in place to prevent novice teen drivers from crashing. Encourage parents to use GDL as a guide to develop a set of appropriate driving limits for their new teen drivers. Help parents connect with other parents in their communities to create social norms that will keep them safe, including no peer passengers for the first six months of independent driving and always wearing seat belts on every trip, every time.
