Our New Normal: Living With Brain Injury Following Prom Night Crash

Two years ago, Tim and Rheta Mullen heard the news every parent fears: Their daughter, Alex, had been in a car crash on junior prom night and suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Initially thought to be destined for a nursing home, the Mullen’s pushed for Alex to recover at Children’s Seashore House at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). After two months of not speaking, moving, or even chewing on her own, Alex says she “woke up” and the family began to find their “new normal.”

With non-stop therapy, determination, and the help and support of her parents, Alex has made tremendous strides in recovery and is pursuing her dreams.
